Automating Bounce Management in Email Campaigns
Keeping your mailing list clean is one of the most import aspects of email marketing. This is true even more so today as ISPs are looking more closely at bounce rates than message content to detect spam.
GroupMail’s Subscriber Add-on, available in both the Personal and Business Editions, allows you to automate your bounce management efforts, grabbing email addresses that bounce and either deleting them or excluding them based on your preferences. Last month, I posted a short overview about managing bounces with GroupMail.

How do I automate bounce management?
Hi Taryn. To manage bounces with GroupMail, you will need to configure GroupMail’s Subscriber Add-on to look at your incoming POP3 mail server for bounces messages (and unsubscribe emails).
Watch the short video entitled “How to Configure GroupMail’s Subscriber Add-on to Process Unsubscribe Requests” from the list of video tutorials in our blog post below:

To automate the process completely, Business Edition customers can use the Scheduler Add-on to schedule Subscriber to process their POP3 Accounts on a daily/weekly or monthly basis. Personal Edition customers will have to open Subscriber periodically and click the “Process Now” button.

How can I install the GM pre-defined Stored Procedures if I need to use them with the Database? Is there a script to run?
Thanks.
Can Group-Mail recognize email addresses that bounce more then once? Say I want to delete only email addresses that have bounces at least 3 times. Because of course there can always be a temporary reason for a bounce… Thanks!
Hi Karen, yes GroupMail will handle this through the Subscriber Add-On, you can define two bounce types, Soft bounces are intended for temporary delivery issues such as mailbox full etc, where as hard bounces relate to permanent problems. You can then define a threshold so for example the email address is only removed from your mailings after 1 hard bounce or 3 soft bounces occur
Hi David. GroupMail’s Subscriber Add-on contains pre-defined bounce rules. See my blog post below for more information.
